Our love of patterns has been well-documented in this blog, and we are back to proclaim our admiration for yet another wonderful pattern designer!
Lotta Jansdotter is a Scandinavian-born artist who has a love for screenprinting, especially creations that represent the beauty of nature. She has a number of books out and even holds classes in her Brooklyn studio, which of course we are all dying to attend!
You can check out her website, which showcases a variety of Lotta’s accomplishments. We can’t get enough of her gorgeous patterns, and we can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
We told you there would be a sweet avian-inspired design landing in your future… and here it is!
We’re so excited to present our freshly hatched design: Blackbird Wall Schtickers, available in both Blackboard and Whiteboard!
Now instead of your ideas flying right out of your head, you can record them however long you want on your fine feathered friends.
We can think of one person in particular who will appreciate our new designs: former Schtickers employee Jody Dyer (birds of a feather flock together, so we gotta give props to one of our own!) She left the nest and started a great online shop, Blackbird Tees. She also runs a fabulous shop in Seattle to showcase her fashions in person, properly entitled Flock. All the Seattleites out there, don’t despair: if you’re still craving more Jody, you can check out her awesome designs at her Etsy shop as well. And yeah, Jody is our friend, but we truly think her creations are awesome, and you will, too!
We just couldn’t resist the opportunity to promote our amazing new designs and a beloved friend all at once. After all, that’s what they call killing two birds with one stone.
We just la la love Orla Kiely’s use of patterns and colors. As we are about to launch a new line of wall graphics, we have been spending a ton of time on patterns and Orla Kiely is definitely a master.
Whether you recognize the name or not, you’ve probably seen Kiely’s work. She recently launched a housewares collection for Target, making her gorgeous designs more accessible to the masses. We are especially big fans of her handbags as well as her new multi-stem wallpaper she’s selling on her site.
Kiely has produced so many amazing designs in her career, and we can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. Her wallpaper patterns will no doubt continue to be a major inspiration for us at Schtickers. What type of pattern would YOU like to see on your wall? Let us know; dreams can come true!
It’s difficult to imagine how anyone could escape Milton Glaser’s I ♥ NY design. It’s not difficult, however, to see how many people have never really thought about the man behind the image. There are so many designs that have become ubiquitous in our culture, it’s easy to accept them as part of the scenery and not someone’s thoughtfully planned creation.
When Glaser originally created the I ♥ NY design in 1977, it was for a New York tourism marketing campaign he assumed would only last a couple months. We all know how wrong he was (in a good way!)… these days it’s tough to go anywhere without running into an “I ♥ ____” logo, NY or otherwise; it’s so popular that knock-offs abound. The design metamorphosed from a basic marketing idea to a longstanding symbol in the American pop culture canon.
This is inspirational to us because it just goes to show, you never know where your design can take you. A simple idea can be transformed into so much more. Get into our design lab and start actualizing your own creativity, and who knows what will happen?!
While you were out…
Oh, there are so many ways to finish that sentence.
A secret admirer stopped by to make an anonymous declaration of love. Your neighbor needs to borrow an egg. Your landlord is delivering an unfortunate eviction notice (not that this last scenario would ever apply to you).
However will these important messages be relayed? A post-it on the door? It will certainly fall. Old-fashioned mail? Takes forever. A ring on the phone? You’re so popular, certainly your number is unlisted by this point!
Luckily, Schtickers is always looking out for you. We’ve created a line of whiteboard wall Schtickers that will adhere to any flat surface, whether it be wood or brick, wall or door!
When your boss needs to let you know the meeting time has been changed, or your dormmate needs you to realize you should (ahem) not come in because her boyfriend is stopping by tonight, wall Schtickers provide the perfect avenue for a clear yet removable message.
Our amazingly useful and versatile whiteboard Schtickers are super easy to clean, come with a starter whiteboard marker, are available in a myriad of shapes and sizes, and of course, are completely removable and reusable (and would never harm your existing wall surface).
With so many advantageous whiteboard wall Schticker opportunities, the possibilities are endless… where would you put yours? What designs would you like to see in the future? And maybe most importantly… who is going to write on your life-changing whiteboard Schticker?!
Since we already showcased a great quote from Charles Eames on Monday, we figured… what better designers to feature for an overall inspiration post? (In case you hadn’t noticed by this point, we’re pretty much obsessed with Eames at the Schtickers Headquarters. There’s nothing anyone can do to save us… but we don’t want to be saved, anyway.)
Ray and Charles Eames were a husband and wife team. We thought that was important to mention, because of the ambiguous nature of the name Ray, many people think they were brothers… nope, married couple! The Eames were so incredibly influential in numerous facets of the art and design world. These days they are probably best remembered for making huge strides in modern architecture and furniture design. Whether you realize it or not, you’ve undoubtedly enjoyed sitting in an Eames chair in a restaurant or office around town…
And let’s not forget the amazing Case Study House #8, aka the Eames House, which is now a National Historic Landmark. Wow.
Actually, we were very inspired by the documentary 901: After 45 Years of Working (a film about the Eames offices) when we were moving into our lovely space.
The Eames produced such an outstanding breadth of work that everyone is bound to have different favorites. So what are you most impressed by? What did they accomplish that inspires you? Let us know! We could talk about this stuff forever!
For our first inspirational quote blog, no one could be more appropriate than Charles Eames. We here at Schtickers absolutely adore Ray & Charles Eames and all they accomplished in their amazing careers. If you’re searching for artists to inspire creation and innovation, look no further. In our offices we have a couple Eames pieces and, like any other design aficionados, we insanely lust after the Eames Lounge and Ottoman. Someday, someday…
Anyway, back to the quote. Anyone who devotes their time and effort to the art of design is truly taking pleasure seriously, because – at least the way we see it – design beautifies our surroundings and day-to-day existence, and making our world a more visually enhanced, aesthetically satisfying place is serious business with some important implications, but also serious fun! Can you imagine a world without creatively applied color, pattern, texture, shape…? We shudder to think of it! And this is why we’re always asking for customer input at Schtickers. We love what we do, and we take it seriously; we want to beautify the world and we want you to be fulfilled by our efforts!
Take your pleasures seriously… we do… a good way to keep this in mind might just be to write it down on one of our fabulous Blackboard Wall Graphics. Actually, these are a great way to record and showcase any favorite quote! Fun and functional, Charles Eames would love it!
Ah, the return of autumn… this can only mean one thing.
Back to school.
And we can all agree that back to school can only mean one thing…
Blackboards!
(Okay, maybe it can mean a lot more than that, but bear with us…)
Traditional blackboards are pretty awesome, but can take up a lot of room and are a bit of a pain. We’ve created the perfect solution for these modern times: the blackboard wall Schticker! Just like chalkboards of yore, these wall Schtickers are easily written on with chalk and are completely erasable, removable, and reusable. And to further improve on the old-school stuff, these come in all sorts of fun shapes and take up virtually no space! What could be better?! A free starter piece of chalk, you say? Well, you’re in luck, because every blackboard Schticker comes with chalk included.
Worried about the application of these new-fangled blackboards? No worries, we promise it’s easier than first-grade math (1+1=2!) but just to prove it, here’s a video of one of our intrepid staffers setting up a chalkboard Schticker on the wall.
Application Video!
Alright, class, what do you think? Are there any blackboard designs you can suggest to us? Raise your hand and let us know.
Besides serving all our lovely individual clients, did you know that Schtickers is also a favorite of the media? We’re constantly receiving requests from television shows and movies.
